Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Assessment

Coming in 2026!

We understand that seeking an autism assessment can feel like an important step for you or your child. At Mind Matters, we provide supportive and thorough assessments for both children and adults, guided by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) recommendations. Each assessment is carried out by trained professionals drawing on a range of expertise, and takes a holistic approach that combines direct observation, developmental history, and input from families or informants. In line with NICE guidance, our assessments explore social communication and interaction, repetitive behaviours and interests, sensory sensitivities, and any co-occurring mental or physical health conditions. Above all, our aim is to provide a clear and personalised understanding of each individual’s strengths and needs.

The 7 stage assessment

Stage 1: Preliminary screening

We will send a questionnaire for either the adult seeking assessment, or the parent/carer of the young person seeking an assessment, to complete.

We will review this and then meet with you, either online or face-to-face to discuss your concerns and reasons for requesting an assessment.

This helps to establish whether a full diagnostic assessment is required. This is a collaborative decision and we will go through all of the options with you. If the decision is made to seek a diagnosis then we will support you through to stage 2.
