Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy
EMDR is a well-established, evidence-based therapy that helps children process and make sense of distressing experiences. At Mind Matters, we adapt EMDR to be child-friendly, using playful and creative techniques such as drawing, storytelling, and guided imagery to keep children engaged. The therapy follows a structured process: children first build a sense of safety and learn coping strategies, then gradually focus on specific memories or challenging experiences while engaging in gentle bilateral stimulation (such as guided eye movements or tapping). This helps the brain reprocess the experience, reducing emotional intensity and supporting healthier ways of thinking and feeling. Throughout, our approach is supportive, paced to each child’s needs, and tailored to ensure understanding and comfort.
